Press Release, 8/18   Philadelphia Parent-Child Home Program Hosts Year One Celebration

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA July 2018 – The Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP), a leading school readiness organization focused on eliminating the achievement gap by ensuring that all parents have the knowledge, skills, and materials they need to build their children’s school readiness, is thrilled to announce a year one celebration for its families and supporters.

The celebration will take place on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM. It will be held at The Please Touch Museum, located at 4231 Avenue of the Republic, Philadelphia, PA 19131. Forty families will be acknowledged and celebrated at this event, which will be the first of many graduations in the lives of these young children.

In partnership with Drexel University and the West Philadelphia Promise Neighborhood, this PCHP cohort began in the second year of the Program in Philadelphia and is happy to celebrate a successful first year in this part of the city. PCHP is grateful for the generous support of Vanguard’s Strong for Kids and the William Penn Foundation in helping expand the Program’s reach to low-income families in West Philadelphia.

At the event, the PCHP children who have recently completed the first year of the Program in South/Southwest Philadelphia will also be celebrated. This cohort consists of 45 Latino and African immigrant families.

The PCHP National Center is proud of the wonderful work that is being done in West Philadelphia, and congratulates all of the families being celebrated.

About Parent-Child Home Program

The Parent-Child Home Program’s (PCHP) international network of program sites provides under-resourced families with the necessary tools to ensure their children achieve their greatest potential in school and in life. Since 1965, PCHP has been assisting underserved communities in replicating and expanding this proven school readiness program that builds early parent-child verbal interaction and learning at home. Through twice-weekly visits by highly trained community-based early learning specialists, PCHP provides families the skills, materials (books and educational toys), and support to help parents engage and teach their children. Over 50 years of research shows that the Program effectively increases school readiness, decreases the need for special education services before grade three by 50%, and increases participants’ high school graduation rates by over 30% to the same level as their middle-income peers.
