Parent-Child Home Program is Named One of America’s High-Impact Nonprofits!

November 20, 2012 — The Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP), a nationally replicated early-literacy, parenting and school readiness program, has been named one of America’s top-performing nonprofit organizations on a newly launched giving platform, The Social Impact 100 (S&I 100). S&I 100 is the first-ever broad index of U.S. nonprofits that have evidence of results and the potential to grow. The Index will help nonprofits find the capital they need to reach more people, and empowers donors to make a bigger difference.

The evidence-based Parent-Child Home Program effectively bridges the achievement gap for low- income children through its unique focus on intensive home visiting (twice a week over a two-year period) with two and three-year-olds and their parents. Trained home visitors model reading, play, and conversation activities using books and educational toys that are gifts to the family. Targeting families challenged by poverty, isolation, language and literacy barriers, and limited educational opportunities, PCHP prepares children and families for school success and high school graduation.

The PCHP National Center, located in Garden City, NY, oversees local partner sites in over 150 communities serving more than 7,000 families annually. PCHP is focused on expanding to serve an additional 3,000 low-income families over the next three years.

PCHP was selected for the S&I 100 because:

  • Over four decades of third party research shows that PCHP improves children’s performance on IQ and school readiness assessments, and increases participants’ high school graduation rates by 30% – to the same level as their middle class peers.
  • PCHP is currently working with 110 partner agencies, serving over 150 communities in 14 states; the national office, with a budget of $1.6 million, leverages over $15 million in funding that goes directly to local partner agencies for service delivery.
  • PCHP is successfully demonstrating that intensive home visiting is a powerful and cost effective way to close the growing achievement gap.

PCHP’s complete S&I 100 profile can be viewed here.

About the S&I 100

Covering 100 high-impact nonprofits and nearly 16,000 local affiliates that are implementing their solutions, the Index features nonprofits like PCHP that address the country’s most pressing issues in education, health, youth and poverty. Each of the 100 organizations has been rigorously screened for proof of impact and is only included in the Index if it has the ability to serve more people in need. When donors use the S&I 100, they can search for high performing nonprofits in the issue areas and locations they care about and give directly to the organizations in a few quick and easy steps, making it easier for nonprofits to raise funds to grow their work. www.SI100.org
